June 21, 2024In participation of Philippine-Australia Friendship Day 2024, the International Relations Office (IRO) organized a networking meeting with Austrade Representative Daina Bersales on May 17, 2024 at the RDC Conference Hall. Facilitated by IRO Director Rex John Bawang, the event saw participation from representatives from different colleges and BSU campuses, both onsite and online. During the session, Ms. Bersales provided valuable insights into Austrade’s role and expressed support for linking Benguet State University (BSU) with Australian universities and industries that align with BSU’s interests. Sajise participated in Vytautas Magnus University’s International Staff Week’24 last April 22- 25, 2024.During the three-day event, Ms. Sajise immersed in the VMU community and met with experts and professors from different universities all over the world. Activities during International Staff Week included training and social events that allowed participants to get to know each other. April 5, 2024Vytautas Magnus University Professor Lina Abraitiene conducted a lecture series about the use of AI in Education on April 2, 2024. The event commenced with an introduction by IRO Director Rex John G. Bawang, who warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the esteemed speaker.The first session was about Integration of AI in Personalized Learning while the afternoon session was on Gamifcation and AI in Education. April 5, 2024Exploring partnerships with the OU, University of Huelva (UHU), Spain Professor Pablo Antonio Cano Jimenez visited BSU on March 25 – 27, 2024. During the flag ceremony, IRO Director Rex John G. Bawang introduced the visitor to the BSU community. Following the ceremony was a courtesy call to President Felipe Salaing Comilla.During an exploratory meeting, OU Assistant Director and IRO Focal Person Gedion Ulban presented the BSU Open University Learning Management System (LMS), while Professor Pablo shared some best practices and other software used in online learning. The group discussed the potential of offering courses through the LMS and proposed negotiations for a Memorandum of Understanding.Following the meeting, a lecture on Spanish Language and sustainability was conducted, with a total of 36 students from the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) and BSU Secondary Laboratory School (BSU-SLS) participating.As part of his engagement at the university, Professor Pablo visited the Buguais and Bokod Campuses on March 26 and 27, respectively. Additionally, he conducted a lecture at Bokod Campus organized by IRO Focal Person Chester B. March 20, 2024On March 19, 2024, three Japanese professors visited Benguet State University to explore potential collaborations in the academe and research. Mina Hori, Iwasa Kazuyuki, and Yoshiaki Iiguni, professors of Kochi Unversity, Japan, engaged with university representatives to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.A meeting was conducted to discuss the MOU. In his welcoming remarks, VPRE Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres emphasized the university’s need for international research collaboration and the publication of international researchers in the MSJIR, BSU’s official University Research Journal. He also shared his goals for each research center to have international research partners.The group proceeded to discuss the details of the aforementioned MOU, with REPO Director Cheryll C. Launio and IRO Director Rex John G. Bawang facilitating the session. The proposed collaborative activities and programs covered research cooperation, faculty and researcher exchange, among others. Protocols for forging international partnerships were also discussed, including the time frame for the approval of the document.Among the participating BSU representatives were OVPRE Researcher Matyline Camfili-Talastas, CA representative Samuel L. Duyan, OU Assistant Director Rashid B. Lokines, NPRCTC Researchers Jennie Balao and Gabby Dao-ines, ISRD Researcher Kacy O. Labon, and IRO staff Glyrel B. Palberas. March 4, 2024𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐑| Japanese Professor Promotes Scholarship Programs and Lectures on the Internet of Plants (IoP) ProjectProfessor Satoshi Kubota from Kochi University, Japan visited BSU to introduce the Kuroshio Scholarship Program and deliver a lecture on the Internet of Plants (IoP) Project on March 1, 2024. A total of 68 participants attended the event.The Kuroshio Scholarship program is a program provided by the Kochi University for international PhD students . It aims to recruit outstanding students who will serve as a bridge between Kochi University and their own countries upon completion. Additionally, a master’s scholarship program focusing on agricultural and marine sciences was also highlighted. Both scholarship programs receive funding from the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT).During his presentation, Professor Kubota introduced a research initiative known as the Internet of Plants (IoP) Project. This innovative project employs precision agriculture techniques to systematically monitor diverse aspects of plant growth and environmental conditions. It achieves this by tracking real-time data on critical factors like photosynthesis, crop development, yield, and weather conditions. This project aims to establish an “IoP Cloud” platform that provides producers with data spanning from production to distribution, enhancing agricultural efficiency and sustainability.As part of the visit, an excursion was organized to enhance the professor’s understanding of the university’ research capabilities. January 16, 2024Asta Kyguolienė and Monika Didžgalvytė-Bujauskė, professors of Faculty of Economics and Management in Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania conducts faculty mobility with Benguet State University. This collaborative faculty mobility program is scheduled from January 15 to 17, 2024. They will be hosted by the College of Home Economics and Technology.IRO Deputy Director Rex John G. Bawang introduced the guests during the flag-raising ceremony. A formal welcome ensued through a courtesy call with President Felipe Salaing Comila wehrein CHET IRO focal person Amelia G. Bawang and CNAS IRO focal person Maycel T. Sajise accompanied them.Their university engagement included visits to the Institute of Highland Farming Systems and Agroforestry (IHFSA), the Food Science Research and Innovation Center (FSRIC), and the University IGP Centers. They were also able to visit the Strawberry Farm and Benguet Museum. Their campus and community excursions were facilitated by CNAS IRO focal person Maycel T. October 9, 2023Earlier today, the IRO conducted a Pre-Departure Orientation Session (PDOS) for Curriculum Development on AgroEcology (CDAE) Project members and Sakura Science Exchange Program grantees in preparation for their upcoming trips to Vietnam and Japan.Participants in the PDOS included CDAE Project members Kenneth Laruan and Joahna Alafag, as well as Sakura Science Exchange Program grantees Jessica Rivera, Rashid Lokines, Mattyline Camfili, Kacy Labon, Mary An Altaki, and Jenny Balao. The BSU CDAE Taskforce is scheduled to travel to Vietnam from October 11 to 15, 2023, while the Sakura Science grantees will travel to Japan from November 12 to 18, 2023.During the orientation session, participants received information and guidance on various aspects of their international travels including cultural awareness, safety measures, and resources available to them while abroad. The goal of PDOS is to ensure that they are well-prepared and equipped to make the most of their experiences.In addition. the IRO had the privilege of welcoming Director for a Day Grace Palayen from Loo National High School in Buguias. During her visit, Grace gained valuable insights into the functions of the International Relations Office and was introduced to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). He was introduced during the Flag-Raising Ceremony and had a courtesy call with President Felipe Salaing Comila. REPO Director Cheryll C. Launio, CNS IRO Focal Person Louisa Pladio, and IRO Deputy Director Maricel A. Guron accompanied the guest.During his visit, he delivered a lecture to the College of Natural Sciences faculty and students. A total of 32 participants attended the activity which included representatives from the three departments (Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science) and BSU- Secondary Laboratory School (BSU-SLS).In his discussion. he introduced Kochi University, the Kuroshio Science Program, and other postgraduate scholarship opportunities. During the discussions, Ambassador Kell encouraged participants to apply not only for world-class education but also for the New Zealand Experience – its people and culture. Several New Zealand universities were also featured. Among them were Massey University, the University of Otago, the University of Auckland, and the University of Canterbury. October 17, 2022𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐏 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐌| Three BSU Alumni were selected for the Agro Studies Internship Program in Israel. Mark Celo, Jomar Esmella, and Cerilo Bagoling were the among the program grantees who will be immersing in Israel for 11 months.Earlier today, they had a brief Pre-departure Orientation Session (PDOS) with IRO Deputy Director Maricel A. Guron and Dr. Janet P. Pablo which was later on followed by a courtesy call with Executive Assistant Atty. Arnold Lampacan and President Felipe Salaing Comila.The Agro Studies Internship Program transpired from the meeting with Israel Ambassador H.E. February 19, 2022BSU students Melody Galap (BPA), Ronica Babsaay (BSDC), Sharilyn Rufino (BSDC), and Oliver Sab-it Laurian Jr. (BPA) at the University of Huelva (UHU) in Spain. They were among nine qualified applicants in BSU who competed for four slots in the Student Mobility of the European Union’s  Erasmus+ Program. Aside from international exposure and cultural exchange, the students will be busy completing their requirements here in BSU and in the courses they have enrolled in at UHU. They join students from other countries in their five-month stay in the City  of Huelva which is 8hrs by bus from Madrid. Hail Benguet State University! February 7, 2022BSU grantees of Erasmus Mobility Programs meet with International Relations Office personnel of the University of Huelva (UHU) in Spain. BSDC students Ronica Raine Babsa-ay and Sharilyn Rufino both qualified for the five-month Student Mobility Program. They will be enrolling two subjects in UHU even as they are also enrolled in BSU for the completion of their thesis and internship. Their internship will also be partially done in UHU.  Paul Joseph Nuval of DevComDept-CIS and Racquel Aquelle Fatog of the BSU International Relations Office also qualified for the five-day Teaching/Staff Mobility Program. July 13, 2021First Pre-Departure Orientation Session just concluded at the International Relations Office for faculty members departing for Spain this week under the Erasmus Faculty Mobility Program. They are Martes Dionisio Martz Dionisio (College of Teacher Education) Maricel M. Abelanes-Guron (College of Arts and Sciences) Marissa Parao (College of Forestry) and Peter Bernard Daipan Buslogie Ola Dai (College of Forestry). Erasmus covers their Faculty Mobility engagement at the University of Oviedo while BSU covers their collaboration visit to the University of Huelva and the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Resource Persons in this activity were IRO Director MaLuz Fang-asan and Erasmus Faculty Mobility Program alumni Marvin Valentin (CEAT/Lithuania), Jennifer Paltiyan (CAS/Lithuania), and Janet Pablo (CA/Spain). Topics in the session were the reiteration of duties and responsibilities as Filipinos, as government employees, and as BSU faculty members; travel preparations and travel tips; liquidation requirements of Erasmus and BSU; suggestions and pieces of advice on how to deal with situations that may arise; and others.
