July 1, 2024Students from different delegations were given the chance to showcase their diverse cultural dances and costumes. Mr. Aldrin Baniaga (MS Student) and Ms. Arra Jeanne Mirador perfomed the tayao dance of Benguet to celebrate the successful conduct of the Assembly.

June 27, 2024The Indigenous dances are part of our culture as Cordillerans and we are delighted to showcase these dances to the community.

Integrating cultural dances into the curriculum is crucial. According to Ms. Corina L. Masing, it is unusual for the youth to have access to the culture which is likely to be forgotten because we are near the urban areas. “Ang kagandahan ng integration ng Indigenous dances so that they (the youth) will not forget. It is more of an appreciation of culture. Also, the students from the lowland areas will appreciate the culture we have here in the Cordillera by starting from the Indigenous dances.”

June 26, 2024College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Dean Elizabeth Dom-ogen, faculty members Romeo Gomez and Jason Leung, and students Aldrin Baniaga (MS Environmental Science) and Arra Jeane Mirador (BSES IV) participated in a mobility program with the Evangelische Hochschule Ludwigsburg (EHL).The BSU delegates attended the Transdisciplinary Intercultural International Project (TIIP) Annual Assembly from June 21 to July 11, 2024, in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

The TIIP Annual Assembly brings together students and faculty from diverse academic backgrounds and cultural contexts to engage in interdisciplinary learning and research. The program aims to promote intercultural understanding and collaboration on global issues, providing participants with a unique platform to exchange ideas, develop new skills, and build professional networks.

To ensure the delegates were well-prepared for this international experience, a Pre-Departure Orientation Session (PDOS) was held on June 20, 2024. The session covered essential travel information, cultural insights, and academic expectations, equipping the participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to make the most of their time in Germany.

June 25, 2024National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan once again invited our Professors from the College of Arts and Humanities to serve as resource speakers/lecturers for their training assistants. Dr. Ka Ra S. Panolong and Dr. Tullay Ronda Bataclao, though it’s not their first time to travel, came over for a Pre Departure Orientation Session (PDOS). June 21, 2024BSU expands its global network by recognizing four new partner institutions in a ceremonial partnership agreement signing on May 15, 2024. The university solidified these partnerships by signing three Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with Maksima Teacher Training Centre, Croatia; Uniwersytet Wroclawski (University of Wroclaw), Poland; and Universitas PGRI Madiun (UNIPMA), Indonesia, along with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Asia Open RAN Academy (AORA).

Organized by the International Relations Office, the ceremonial signing invited representatives from the various institutions to participate both onsite and online. IRO Director Rex John Bawang opened the event, while CIS IRO Focal Person Jovelyn Lao-e facilitated the meeting and introduced each of the partners. VPAA Samuel S. Poliden participated the event on behalf of BSU President Felipe Salaing Comila. To witness the signing of agreement, CE IRO Focal Person Almon Bokilis, CTE IRO Focal Person Desiree Botengan and representatives from the College of Information Sciences (CIS) attended the event.

The signing of agreements commenced with the MOU with Maksima Teacher Training Centre, followed by an online signing with the University of Wroclaw represented by Marvin T. Valentin, who conveyed a brief message regarding the partnership. Mr. Valentin is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in the represented university in Poland. Subsequently, the MOU with UNIPMA was signed, with officials from the Indonesian university participating online. Vice Rector Jeffry Handhika delivered a message emphasizing the importance of the partnership. Lastly, an MOA was signed onsite with AORA, represented by Jose Feliciano Josef, who also shared a message highlighting the significance of collaboration from the industry’s perspective.

June 21, 2024In participation of Philippine-Australia Friendship Day 2024, the International Relations Office (IRO) organized a networking meeting with Austrade Representative Daina Bersales on May 17, 2024 at the RDC Conference Hall. Facilitated by IRO Director Rex John Bawang, the event saw participation from representatives from different colleges and BSU campuses, both onsite and online. During the session, Ms. Bersales provided valuable insights into Austrade’s role and expressed support for linking Benguet State University (BSU) with Australian universities and industries that align with BSU’s interests. June 5, 2024Benguet State University (BSU) welcomed distinguished officials from Evangelische Hochschule Ludwigsburg (Protestant University of Applied Sciences), Germany, on May 29, 2024. The delegation, including EHL Chancellor Thomas Erler and Vice Presidents Jens Müller and Annette Franke, visited as part of the Transdisciplinary Intercultural International Partnership Project (TIIPP).

During their visit, a courtesy call was scheduled with BSU President Felipe Salaing Comila, who personally welcomed the esteemed guests. The visit also featured a cultural dinner showcasing Cordilleran culture, where guests participated in traditional dances.

Celebrating its first anniversary this June, the TIIPP has seen successful collaboration between EHL and BSU. Building on this success, the project aims to expand its partnership to include Ifugao State University (IFSU) and Mountain Province Polytechnic State College (MPSPC). […]Read more…

College of Numeracy and Applies Sciences (CNAS) faculty member Marycel T. Sajise participated in Vytautas Magnus University’s International Staff Week’24 last April 22- 25, 2024.

During the three-day event, Ms. Sajise immersed in the VMU community and met with experts and professors from different universities all over the world. Activities during International Staff Week included training and social events that allowed participants to get to know each other. She also had the opportunity to conduct classes and share her expertise in Statistics with VMU students and staff.

April 5, 2024Three students from the BSU College of Public Administration and Governance (CPAG) – Catherine P. Friaz, Vincent D. Kilino, and Carla B. Tolo-an – recently attended the Cross-Cultural Leadership Training Camp organized by Sing Out Asia in Bangkok, Thailand, from March 22 to 31, 2024.

They are the second batch of students to engage in this program, following the participation of four students who attended the Cross-Cultural Camp in Vietnam and Japan in 2023.

The Cross-Cultural Training Camp offers more than just skill development; it serves as a platform for cultivating a global perspective. April 5, 2024Vytautas Magnus University Professor Lina Abraitiene conducted a lecture series about the use of AI in Education on April 2, 2024. The event commenced with an introduction by IRO Director Rex John G. Bawang, who warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the esteemed speaker.

The first session was about Integration of AI in Personalized Learning while the afternoon session was on Gamifcation and AI in Education. A total of 270 students actively participated in the two-session event attended by students from the College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), College of Information Sciences (CIS), College of Human Kinetics (CHK) and College of Teacher Education (CTE).

April 5, 2024Exploring partnerships with the OU, University of Huelva (UHU), Spain Professor Pablo Antonio Cano Jimenez visited BSU on March 25 – 27, 2024. During the flag ceremony, IRO Director Rex John G. Bawang introduced the visitor to the BSU community. Following the ceremony was a courtesy call to President Felipe Salaing Comilla.

During an exploratory meeting, OU Assistant Director and IRO Focal Person Gedion Ulban presented the BSU Open University Learning Management System (LMS), while Professor Pablo shared some best practices and other software used in online learning. The group discussed the potential of offering courses through the LMS and proposed negotiations for a Memorandum of Understanding.

Following the meeting, a lecture on Spanish Language and sustainability was conducted, with a total of 36 students from the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) and BSU Secondary Laboratory School (BSU-SLS) participating.

As part of his engagement at the university, Professor Pablo visited the Buguais and Bokod Campuses on March 26 and 27, respectively. Additionally, he conducted a lecture at Bokod Campus organized by IRO Focal Person Chester B. Esnara.

This marks the third visit by Professor Pablo to BSU, during which he has initiated partnerships with different colleges including the College of Human Kinetics, College of Teacher Education, BSU Bokod Campus, and this year, the Open University. March 20, 2024On March 19, 2024, three Japanese professors visited Benguet State University to explore potential collaborations in the academe and research. Mina Hori, Iwasa Kazuyuki, and Yoshiaki Iiguni, professors of Kochi Unversity, Japan, engaged with university representatives to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions.

A meeting was conducted to discuss the MOU. In his welcoming remarks, VPRE Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres emphasized the university’s need for international research collaboration and the publication of international researchers in the MSJIR, BSU’s official University Research Journal. He also shared his goals for each research center to have international research partners.

The group proceeded to discuss the details of the aforementioned MOU, with REPO Director Cheryll C. Launio and IRO Director Rex John G. Bawang facilitating the session. The proposed collaborative activities and programs covered research cooperation, faculty and researcher exchange, among others. Protocols for forging international partnerships were also discussed, including the time frame for the approval of the document.

Among the participating BSU representatives were OVPRE Researcher Matyline Camfili-Talastas, CA representative Samuel L. Duyan, OU Assistant Director Rashid B. Lokines, NPRCTC Researchers Jennie Balao and Gabby Dao-ines, ISRD Researcher Kacy O. Labon, and IRO staff Glyrel B. Palberas. Jessica Rivera, a grantee of the Kochi University Sakura Science Exchange Program and faculty from CA, also attended the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, the group attended the flag ceremony at the Benguet Provincial Capitol where they met with Governor Melchor D. Diclas. A courtesy visit to the President Felipe Salaing Comila was also conducted.

In addition to exploring partnership opportunities, the visiting Japanese delegation conducted interviews in the province. Their focus was on Filipino interns who had undergone training programs in Japan. March 15, 2024Represented by CNAS Dean Ederson Bawang, CA IRO Focal Person Mary Arnel Garcia, Bokod Campus IRO Focal Person Chester Esnara, and UBA IRO Focal Person Jeftee Ben Pinos-an, BSU actively participated in the 2024 Transformative Education for Sustainable Social Impact (TESSI) Institute from March 11 to 15, 2024 at University of the Philippines Diliman. The event was a collaborative effort by Quezon City University, Design Thinkers Academy – Singapore, Civika Asian Development Academy, Social Transformation School, Quezon City Youth Development Office, SCII Network, and NCPAG Governance Futures Lab.

March 13, 2024The University received seven visitors from Tottori University, Japan on March 12, 2024. Commencing the engagement, a courtesy call was made to President Felipe Salaing Comila. Accompanying the delegation were Sakura Science Grantees Rashid Lokines and Matyline Camfili-Talastas, along with IRO Director Rex John Bawang and REPO Director Cheryll Launio.

Following the meeting, the group proceeded to the College of Agriculture for a presentation by Daichi Umekawa. He shared his research findings titled, “Situation of Carrot Production and Determinants of Productivity in Benguet Province, Philippines,” conducted during his student exchange program with BSU from January to May 2023, spending a semester immersed in the university.

A campus and community excursion was conducted led by Sakura Science Exchange Program Grantees Kacy Labon and Mary An Altaki. The delegation visited the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) and the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post (LTVTP).

The day concluded with a cultural welcome featuring the KONTAD Cultural Dance Troupe, where the Japanese visitors were taught cultural dances in the region, enriching their cultural exchange experience during their visit. […]Read more…

March 12, 2024In celebration of the successful collaboration during the e-Asia and DOST-CAR Research Symposium, BSU organized a cultural send-off for partners from the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand on March 8, 2024. The KONTAD Dance Troupe showcased a vibrant array of cultural dances of the region, inviting partners to join in the festivities. The event aimed to foster camaraderie and appreciation for cultural exchange.

The symposium, titled “Smart and Green Cities for a Brighter Quality of Life,” brought together project leaders and researchers from the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand to share insights and findings on smart city planning and design. The event was held at the Paragon Hotel in Baguio from March 7 to 8, 2024.

Participating institutions included the Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR), the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD), Benguet State University, De La Salle University (DLSU), and esteemed Japanese and Thai institutions such as Chubu University, Toyohashi University of Technology, Nagoya University, Aichi Institute of Technology, Nippon Engineering Consultancy, Thammasat University, Mahidol University, and Suranaree University of Technology.
