Benguet State University (BSU) recently celebrated its commitment to global sustainability through a three-day photo exhibit titled “SDGs in Focus: Capturing SDG Footprints at BSU towards Global Citizenship”. Held from April 6 to 8, 2026, the event transformed the International Relations Office (IRO) Function Hall into a gallery of student-led initiatives aimed at the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The activity, organized by the College of Social Sciences (CSS) in collaboration with the IRO, featured photographs taken by students from the Social Science 23 (The Contemporary World) course. These images captured everyday campus practices and institutional programs that align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the opening ceremony, Dr. Stanley F. Anongos, Jr., Dean of the College of Social Sciences, noted that photography serves as a vital storytelling medium that bridges the mind and the heart. By documenting sustainability footprints on campus, students are encouraged to see BSU not just as a local school, but a place that cultivates global citizenship.
The event culminated on April 8 with a virtual lecture from Professor Santiago Muriel of the Universidad de Huelva, Spain. He shared “Green Campus” strategies, inspiring the BSU community to adopt more environmentally responsible habits. Outstanding student works were also recognized, with a team of Civil Engineering students taking the top prize for their visual documentation of sustainability.
As we approaches the year 2030, only four years remain to achieve the Global Goals. The exhibit served as a timely reminder that local actions contribute to a global impact. To become a truly global sustainable university, BSU students continually expressed their commitment to participate to the Universityâs SDG efforts. Through this activity, BSU aims to ensure that its “SDG footprints” lead toward a more sustainable and inclusive future by 2030.//ATBassit
