As part of the ongoing academic engagement with the delegation from Wrocล‚aw University of Science and Technology, Benguet State University hosted a plenary session with the delegation at the International Relations Office Function Hall on August 4, 2026.

Attended by BSU faculty members and staff, the activity served as a platform for knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and the continued advancement of internationalization initiatives between the two institutions.

The program commenced with an opening prayer led by Ms. Shiela Marie Donquiz of the College of Engineering, followed by the introduction of the WUST delegates by Mr. Marvin T. Valentin, Special Assistant to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The BSU participants were then introduced by Ms. Fabie Dummapi of the College of Engineering, while Mr. Naycer Jeremy G. Tulas of the College of Information Sciences presented an overview of the activities prepared for the delegation’s visit.

A message of welcome was delivered by Dr. Constantino T. Sudaypan Sr., Dean of the College of Agriculture, emphasizing the value of international partnerships in advancing academic excellence, research, and innovation. Meanwhile, Ms. Lorielaine A. Baldemor of the College of Engineering shared the University’s expectations for the collaborative engagement.

The highlight of the event was the plenary session featuring distinguished experts from WUST. Dr. Eng. Paweล‚ Sokoล‚owski, Deputy Head of the Department of Metal Forming, Welding and Metrology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, introduced Wrocล‚aw University of Science and Technology, its Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Metal Forming and Metrology. He also delivered a lecture on “Plasma Spraying: From Process Fundamentals to Functional Coatings and Applications,” highlighting additive manufacturing and surface engineering processes. In addition, he discussed scholarship opportunities available to BSU faculty members and students who aspire to pursue academic and research endeavors in Europe.

The session continued with Adam Sajbura, PhD Candidate at WUST, who presented “Ultrasonic Atomization for Metal Powder Production and General Applications of Ultrasound in Engineering,” showcasing innovative approaches and emerging technologies in materials engineering.

Completing the series of presentations, Michaล‚ Tympalski, PhD Candidate at WUST, introduced the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics and shared his presentation on “Monitoring Glacier Dynamics with SAR Data,” demonstrating the use of advanced geospatial technologies in environmental monitoring and climate research.

The plenary session served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, academic dialogue, and the exploration of future collaborative initiatives between Benguet State University and Wrocล‚aw University of Science and Technology, further strengthening the University’s commitment to internationalization and global academic partnerships.

August 4, 2026Benguet State University warmly welcomed delegates from Wrocล‚aw University of Science and Technology on August 3, 2026, for a weeklong academic engagement under the NAWA PROM Programme of Poland.

The delegation was led by Dr. Eng. Paweล‚ Sokoล‚owski, accompanied by PhD candidates Adam Sajbura and Michaล‚ Tympalski, together with Eng. Marvin T. Valentin. The delegates participated in the University’s Flag Raising Ceremony before proceeding to a courtesy visit with University President Kenneth A. Laruan. They were welcomed by President Laruan, Vice President for Academic Affairs Janet P. Pablo, International Relations Office Director Rex John G. Bawang, College of Engineering Dean Alvin C. Dulay, and Department Head of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Erickson N. Dominguez.

During the courtesy visit, representatives from both institutions introduced their respective universities and discussed the activities lined up throughout the delegates’ stay. The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore potential areas for future collaboration in research, academic exchange, and other international initiatives.

Following the courtesy visit, the delegates, together with CIS faculty member Naycer Jeremy G. Tulas and College of Engineering faculty members Erickson N. Dominguez, Fabie Dumapi, and Sheila Marie Donguiz, toured several of the University’s research facilities. They first visited the Research and Extension Building, where they met with Vice President for Research and Extension Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres to discuss possible collaborations in research, academic initiatives, and scholarly publications.

The tour continued at the BSU Agri-based Technology Business Incubator/Innovation Center (ATBI/IC), the Food Science Research and Innovation Center (FSRIC), and the Northern Philippines Rootcrops Research and Training Center (NPRCRTC), where the delegates learned about the University’s food processing technologies, business incubation initiatives, and root crop research and production programs.

In the afternoon, the International Relations Office hosted a cultural welcome program at the IRO Function Hall. The delegates were treated to performances by the KONTAD Cultural Dance Troupe and the BSU Rondalla, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Cordillera and the Philippines.

Throughout the week, the delegates will participate in a series of academic engagements, including public lectures, research proposal development workshops, and collaborative discussions with BSU faculty members and students. Their visit is made possible through the NAWA PROM Programme of Poland, which supports short-term international academic mobility and fosters collaboration among higher education institutions.

The engagement also reflects BSU’s continuing commitment to strengthening international partnerships, advancing research and innovation, and promoting global academic engagement.

July 27, 2026In celebration of National Language Month 2026, the Department of Filipino of the College of Arts and Humanities, Benguet State University, in partnership with the BSU Alumni Office, International Relations Office, and University of Huelva, will hold the PISTA 2026: Pagdiriwang ng Inobasyon sa Saliksik, Turo, at Aral ng mga Wika โ€“ International Symposium on Innovations in Research, Pedagogy and Learning of Languages 2026 on September 3, 2026.

With the theme “AI as a Tool in Language Research, Pedagogy and Learning of Languages,” the symposium aims to provide an international platform for the exchange of knowledge, research, and best practices in the fields of the Filipino language, indigenous languages, foreign languages, literature, culture, and emerging technologies.

It also seeks to strengthen international collaboration, expand academic partnerships, and promote the development of research with significant societal impact through the participation of researchers, educators, students, and experts from the Philippines and other countries.

July 22, 2026Benguet State University warmly welcomed representatives from Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN), Indonesia, on July 22, 2026. The delegation was composed of Dr. Abdul Kadir, M.Pd., Head of LP2M IAIN and Lead Researcher, and Muh. Kurniawan, M.Pd., Head of Global Partnership. They were joined by representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Benguet: Aladin M. Dobinto, Chief Education Program Supervisor of the Curriculum Implementation Division; Delarosa V. Delmas, Public Schools District Supervisor of La Trinidad District; and Lorna M. Yaco, Education Program Specialist II.

The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the BSU-Office of the President, where they were welcomed by University President Kenneth A. Laruan, Vice President for Academic Affairs Janet P. Pablo, and International Relations Office (IRO) Director Rex John G. Bawang.

Following the courtesy visit, the delegation met with deans and representatives from the College of Social Sciences and the College of Teacher Education to learn more about the University’s academic programs and discuss possible areas for collaboration. The discussion focused on opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, research collaboration, and other academic partnerships.

As part of their visit, they also toured the Cordillera Regional Apiculture Center, where they learned about BSU’s beekeeping programs and practices.

The visit marked an important step toward building a meaningful partnership between BSU and IAIN Indonesia. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both institutions expressing their interest in pursuing a formal agreement to strengthen future collaboration in education, research, and academic exchange.

July 17, 2026BSU joins the 1st Workshop on University’s Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Implementation in the Philippines. Benguet State University participated in the Luzon Cluster of the 1st Workshop on University’s IQA Implementation in the Philippines Utilizing the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3, held on July 14โ€“16, 2026 at Marikina Polytechnic College.

The workshop is part of a nationwide capacity-building series designed to strengthen the Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) systems of higher education institutions in the Philippines. It was jointly organized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Secretariat, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED), the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), and the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

Centered on the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3, the workshop equipped participants with practical strategies for strengthening institutional governance, promoting evidence-based decision-making, and building quality assurance systems that respond to digitalization, internationalization, and the evolving needs of higher education and the workforce.

Throughout the three-day program, participants explored the Philippine higher education landscape, gained a deeper understanding of the eight building blocks of the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit, and engaged in working sessions, peer learning, and action planning to develop customized Internal Quality Assurance plans for their respective institutions. The workshop also featured learning sessions led by quality assurance experts from the ASEAN University Network Secretariat, SEAMEO RIHED, the University of Santo Tomas, Mahidol University, and the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, along with a special address from Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Dr. Shirley Castaรฑeda Agrupis.

Representing BSU were Dr. Janet P. Pablo, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Imelda G. Parcasio, Dean of the Graduate School and Special Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Joanna I. Alafag, Director of the Office of Quality Assurance and Accreditation; Dr. Evelyn D. Rosario and Jacelle Grace M. Maidun from the Office of Quality Assurance and Accreditation; Racquel M. Fatog and Jeric Raye Bayating from the International Relations Office; and Janice P. Balangen, faculty member and International Relations Office Coordinator of the College of Natural Sciences.

BSU’s participation in the workshop reflects the University’s continuing commitment to strengthening its culture of quality and aligning its academic and institutional practices with ASEAN and international quality assurance standards in support of academic excellence and continuous improvement.

July 10, 2026Benguet State University warmly welcomed the Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines, Dana Kursh, together with Ms. Gladys Baniqued-Turiano, Programs and Public Diplomacy Officer of the Embassy of Israel in the Philippines, on July 9, 2026.

The delegation was received by University President Kenneth A. Laruan, International Relations Office (IRO) Director Rex John G. Bawang, IRO Deputy Director Doreen I. Allasiw, and Ms. Karryl Mae C. Ngina of the College of Social Sciences, a former MASHAV scholar.

The visit reaffirmed the continuing relationship between Benguet State University and the Embassy of Israel while providing an opportunity to discuss possible areas for future collaboration. It also marked Ambassador Dana Kursh’s first visit to the University and followed previous visits by Israeli ambassadors in 2022 and 2019, reflecting the sustained engagement between the Embassy and BSU over the years.

A notable outcome of the 2022 visit of then-Israeli Ambassador H.E. Ilan Fluss was the participation of three BSU alumni in the Agro Studies Internship Program in Israel. The alumni completed an 11-month agricultural internship, an opportunity that grew from the discussions during Ambassador Fluss’s visit to the University.

Following a courtesy call with the University President, the delegation was treated to a cultural welcome featuring performances by the BSU KONTAD. They were then given a tour of the campus, including the College of Agriculture, where they learned about the University’s agricultural programs and initiatives. The delegation also visited the Cordillera Regional Apiculture Center to gain insights into the University’s beekeeping program before exploring the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC), showcasing BSU’s commitment to agricultural development and the vegetable trading industry.

June 30, 2026Representatives of Cordillera Youth Center (CYC) and YOUCA (Youth for Change and Action) met with the Benguet State University – International Relations Office to discuss international youth exchange programs and fellowship opportunities for selected BSU students on June 23, 2026, at the IRO Building. The program promotes cultural immersion, advocacy engagement, and educational exchange in Belgium.

CYC is a Baguio-based SEC-registered youth development organization focused on capacity building, education, cultural revitalization, environmental awareness, and youth empowerment in the Cordillera region. Looking forward, this initiative also envisions a potential partnership with Benguet State University, through the International Relations Office, to further strengthen multilingual collaboration, youth exchange, and international engagement programs in the future.

The fellowship program involves a three-week stay in Belgium. In the first week, participants will undergo introduction and orientation activities, including host family integration. In the second week, they will participate in the YOUCA Action Day (work immersion with Belgian youth) and engage in school visits. In the third week, students will present discussions on Cordillera issues, particularly environmental and indigenous peoplesโ€™ concerns. Through these activities, participants will be able to share local perspectives, gain international learning experiences, and strengthen global awareness aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Experienced Filipino professionals can now apply for a free, 10-month study and professional program in the United States. The deadline to apply is August 7, 2026. Interested leaders must submit their applications through the online portal at apply.iie.org/huberthhumphrey.

As a component of the renowned Fulbright exchange activity, the program is primarily funded by the U.S. Congress through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. The non-renewable fellowship completely covers:

GYSS brings together outstanding young researchers from around the world to engage with some of the most distinguished scientists and technologists, including recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Turing Award, and Millennium Technology Prize. The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings, formerly known as the THE Impact Rankings, is the only global ranking that assesses how higher education institutions contribute to sustainable development in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2026, the ratings evaluated 1,646 universities from 116 countries and territories across 17 SDG categories and one overall ranking.

BSU’s journey in the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings reflects its growing commitment to sustainable development. The University first participated in 2023, earning recognition in four SDGs among 1,591 institutions worldwide. In 2024, BSU expanded its presence to ten SDGs among 1,963 institutions. By 2025, the University was assessed in twelve SDGs and achieved an overall global rank of 801โ€“1000. This year, BSU retained its strong presence across twelve SDGs while advancing to the 601โ€“800 band globally.

This achievement reflects the dedication and collective efforts of the entire BSU community, guided by its shared purpose of Shaping Minds, Transforming Communities, and Sustaining Futures.

June 19, 2026As part of its continuing efforts to expand international partnerships and strengthen academic collaboration, Benguet State University (BSU) and North Carolina Wesleyan University (NCWU), USA, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 17, 2026, at the BSU Administration Building.

This partnership, made possible through the initiative of the College of Human Kinetics (CHK), aims to strengthen academic collaboration and engagement between BSU and NCWU. The partnership covers various areas of cooperation, including academic exchange, collaborative programs, research initiatives, and sports-related activities that will benefit both institutions.

The MOU was signed by BSU President Kenneth Alip Laruan, Vice President of Academic Affairs Janet P. Pablo, and Coach Tim Dornemann, Associate Professor of Exercise Science, who represented NCWU President Evan Duff during the signing ceremony. The event was witnessed by International Relations Office (IRO) Director Rex John G. Bawang, together with faculty members and staff of the College of Human Kinetics.

Following the ceremony, Coach Dornemann conducted a two-day lecture and drill session for incoming second-year Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) students in collaboration with CHK. Held on June 17โ€“18, 2026, at the BSU Covered Court, the activity focused on Physical Education, agility training, and the development of the total athlete.

June 10, 2026Benguet State University warmly welcomed representatives from Muyuan Foods Co., Ltd., one of China’s leading agribusiness companies and a global leader in modern livestock production, during their visit to the University on June 9, 2026.

The delegation was received by Vice President for Academic Affairs Janet P. Pablo, International Relations Office (IRO) Director Rex John G. Bawang, and IRO staff during a courtesy visit at the Office of the University President.

Led by Human Resources Manager Li Yaohui, the delegation visited BSU to explore potential cooperation in support of the company’s long-term development goals in the piggery industry. During the courtesy visit, the delegation also shared its plans and potential cooperation initiatives in the fields of agricultural technology, professional talent development, and other related areas.

Following the courtesy visit, the delegation met with representatives from the College of Engineering, the College of Home Economics and Technology, and the Department of Crop Science and the Department of Animal Science of the College of Agriculture at the IRO Function Hall to further discuss potential areas of collaboration.

During the meeting, representatives from Muyuan Foods presented the company’s innovations in smart pig farming technologies, biosecurity systems, and sustainable livestock production practices. Discussions focused on opportunities for student internships, recruitment of graduates, and possible industry-academe partnerships in agriculture and other related fields.

The meeting also opened discussions on the possible establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Benguet State University and Muyuan Foods Co., Ltd. as a framework for future collaboration.

June 8, 2026Benguet State University warmly welcomed a delegation led by the Consul & Head of Post Li Xiaoyan of the Chinese Consulate in Laoag during a courtesy visit on June 4, 2026, at the BSU-Office of the President. They were received by University President Kenneth A. Laruan and International Relations Office Director Rex John G. Bawang. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore possible academic collaborations between the University and Chinese universities. An exchange of tokens of appreciation also took place during the meeting.

The delegation later toured the BSU campus, including a visit to the BSU Marketing Center, where they sampled and purchased locally made university products.

May 21, 2026Benguet State University once again warmly welcomed delegates from the University of Huelva and a scientist under the Balik Scientist Program through a cultural welcome organized by the BSU International Relations Office at the IRO Hall on May 20, 2026.

The event honored visiting delegates from UHU, Santiago Rodrรญguez Muriel, psychologist and educator, and Luiz Rodrigues, a language professional, teacher, and researcher, together with Flor Crisanta F. Galvez, a Balik Scientist who earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Georgia. The guests were welcomed through cultural performances featuring traditional dances by the BSU KONTAD Cultural Dance Troupe and a Daing chant presented by faculty members from the Department of Filipino of the College of Arts and Humanities.

The celebration concluded with a community dance led by KONTAD, where delegates and participants joined together in a shared cultural experience that highlighted friendship, cultural appreciation, and international camaraderie. Following the community dance, the delegates, BSU faculty and staff, and students shared a fellowship dinner, providing an opportunity for meaningful conversations, cultural exchange, and stronger connections among participants.

The event also marked the conclusion of the short mobility program of the UHU delegates at BSU and the beginning of the universityโ€™s 45-day engagement with the Balik Scientist. Through these initiatives, the university continues to strengthen international collaboration, academic exchange, and research engagement with global partners.

May 20, 2026The Benguet State University, through the Faculty and Staff Research, Innovation, and Commercialization Office (FSRIC) and College of Home Economics and Technology, BSU, successfully conducted the Welcome and Orientation Program for the Balik Scientist Program in partnership with DOST-PCAARRD on May 18, 2026.

The activity formally welcomed Dr. Flor Crisanta F. Galvez, under the Balik Scientist Program, strengthened collaboration among stakeholders, and provided an overview of the projects and initiatives to be implemented under the program.

The program commenced with an opening prayer led by Ms. Lorie Jean D. Benwasan, FSRIC Staff, followed by the acknowledgement of participants delivered by Mr. Caster Troy B. Iblogan, FSRIC Staff. Representatives from various university offices and partner agencies attended the orientation to express their support for the universityโ€™s research and internationalization initiatives.

A special message was delivered by Dr. Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres, Vice President for Research and Extension, who highlighted the importance of the Balik Scientist Program in advancing research, innovation, and knowledge exchange within the university and the community.

Mr. Lesley Dale G. Umayat, FSRIC Director, formally introduced the Balik Scientist and recognized the expertise and contributions that the program brings to the university. This was followed by an orientation on the Balik Scientist Program facilitated by Ms. Michelle Purisma Caparas of DOST-PCAARRD, who discussed the objectives, opportunities, and support mechanisms of the program for both the institution and participating scientists.

An overview of the projects and activities was presented by Ms. Daena Mariele D. Dar, FSRIC Staff, outlining the planned initiatives, collaborative engagements, and expected outcomes of the partnership. The session also included feedback and recommendations from the representatives of DOST-PCAARRD to further enhance the implementation of the projects and ensure alignment with institutional and national development goals.

Dr. Flor Crisanta F. Galvez, Balik Scientist, delivered a special message expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirming her commitment to contributing expertise and knowledge to the universityโ€™s research and extension endeavors. She also encouraged continued collaboration and innovation among faculty members, researchers, and students.

May 20, 2026A delegation of 40 students from the National University of Singapore under the Southeast Asia Friendship Initiative (SAFI) visited Benguet State University on May 18, 2026, as part of their 10-day study visit in the Philippines conducted in partnership with Ateneo de Manila University. The delegation was led by Dr. Thian-Guan Peck, together with Dr. Lisa C. Antonio.

Held at the BSU La Trinidad Campus from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, the visit focused on strengthening the studentsโ€™ understanding of sustainability, innovation, and community engagement aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study program explored three major themes: understanding the Philippines and civic responsibility, eco-tourism and sustainable practices, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

During the visit, the group participated in an orientation on the Agribusiness Technology Business Incubator and Innovation Center (ATBI-IC), where they learned about BSUโ€™s initiatives in microenterprise development, innovation programs, and incubation services. The students also experienced a guided tour of the Strawberry Farm led by Mr. Leonard D. Licudan, which highlighted sustainable farming practices and local agribusiness models.

The delegation further engaged with local microentrepreneurs involved in strawberry farming, gaining insights into enterprise development and the positive impact of community-based initiatives. May 19, 2026The Department of ๐‘ท๐’”๐’š๐’„๐’‰๐’๐’๐’๐’ˆ๐’š, ๐‘จ๐’๐’•๐’‰๐’“๐’๐’‘๐’๐’๐’๐’ˆ๐’š, ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘บ๐’๐’„๐’Š๐’๐’๐’๐’ˆ๐’š of the Benguet State University College of Social Sciences conducted a seminar entitled โ€œPsychology in the Workplace: Migration, Gender Dynamics, and Work-Life Integrationโ€ in collaboration with the Benguet State University International Relations Office, featuring visiting lecturers from the University of Huelva as keynote speakers. The seminar was held at the IRO Hall on May 19, 2026, and was attended by university staff, faculty members, and students.

Santiago Rodrรญguez Muriel, a psychologist and educator based in Huelva, Spain, served as the main speaker and delivered his presentation entitled โ€œUnderstanding Migration: A Psychosocial Perspective.โ€ He discussed the reasons why people migrate, the psychological effects of migration on mental health, the importance of psychological support for displaced communities, and cross-cultural strategies in working with migrant populations.

Following the presentation, Luiz Rodrigues shared his personal experiences and challenges as someone who has also undergone migration from one country to another, giving participants meaningful insights into migration, cultural adaptation, and workplace integration.

The seminar provided an opportunity for participants to gain a deeper understanding of migration through psychological and cultural perspectives, while promoting meaningful discussions on empathy, inclusivity, and global engagement in todayโ€™s interconnected world.

May 18, 2026Benguet State University warmly welcomed Mr. Santiago Rodrรญguez Muriel, psychologist and educator based at the University of Huelva, Spain, for a short mobility program under the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme. Joining him was Mr. Luiz Rodrigues, a language professional, teacher, and researcher. The delegates were formally introduced to the BSU community by International Relations Office Deputy Director Doreen I. Allasiw during the universityโ€™s Flag Raising Ceremony before proceeding to a courtesy call with University President Kenneth A. Laruan alongside the International Relations Office staff at the Office of the University President.

As part of the visit, the delegates toured key university offices where they learned about BSUโ€™s initiatives on employee welfare, student development, inclusivity, and mental well-being. At the Human Resource Management Office and Human Resource Development Office, they were welcomed by Ms. Maricris P. Lad-ey-Neyney and Ms. Jenny D. Agadan, who shared insights on the services offered, while at the Gender and Development Office, Mr. Jude Tayaben shared the universityโ€™s gender-responsive programs. At the Office of Student Services, Ms. Erlyn Honeylette Marquez, together with OSS unit heads, presented student support and wellness initiatives.

The delegates also visited the Cordillera Regional Apiculture Center (CRAC), where they were introduced to BSUโ€™s bee research and honey production initiatives. They also toured the Institute of Highland Farming Systems and Agroforestry (IHFSA), where Mr. Vecker Tero, IHFSA Farm Supervisor, shared insights into BSUโ€™s coffee production practices.

To have insights into our history and culture, the delegates also visited the BSU University Museum and the Benguet Museum, where they learned more about the rich history of our University and the cultural heritage of the region through presentations by BSU Museum volunteers Mr. Jude Segovia and Ms. Edel Paleyan, and Provincial Tourism Officer Kenneth Kelcho.

The tour concluded at the BSU Strawberry Farms, guided by Leonard D. Licudan, where the delegates were introduced to the universityโ€™s strawberry farming initiatives and local agricultural practices.
