Benguet State University (BSU) welcomed Erika Martinez Gonzales, a staff member from the University of Huelva, Spain’s Faculty of Nursing, for a week-long Staff Mobility Program held from January 13–17, 2024. She was formally introduced to the BSU community by International Relations Office (IRO) Director Rex John G. Bawang during the flag-raising ceremony.
Her visit began with a courtesy call with BSU officials: BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan, Vice President for Academic Affairs Janet Pablo, Vice President for Research and Extension Roscinto Ian Lumbres, Vice President for University Business Affairs Josel Florentin, and the receiving college representatives: College of Nursing Dean Mark U. Gay-as, College Secretary Jonalyn Esco, and GAD Director Jude L. Tayaben.
Following the courtesy call, Ms. Gonzales toured BSU’s La Trinidad Campus, starting with the Centennial Park for a glimpse into the university’s history. She also visited the Cordillera Regional Apiculture Center (CRAC) where Research Assistant Leo Kimbungan introduced her to BSU’s bee research and honey production initiatives.
The tour continued at the Institute of Highland Farming Systems and Agroforestry (IHFSA), where Von Amado shared insights into BSU’s coffee production practices, including the innovative “coffee under pine” farming system. The tour concluded at the Benguet Museum, where Provincial Tourism Officer Kenneth Kelcho provided an overview of Benguet’s rich cultural history.
Ms Erika was accompanied by the Hospitality Student Interns Myly Nam-ay and Gerlyn Payadpad.
