Benguet State University warmly welcomed Mr. Santiago Rodríguez Muriel, psychologist and educator based at the University of Huelva, Spain, for a short mobility program under the Erasmus+ KA171 Programme. Joining him was Mr. Luiz Rodrigues, a language professional, teacher, and researcher. The delegates were formally introduced to the BSU community by International Relations Office Deputy Director Doreen I. Allasiw during the university’s Flag Raising Ceremony before proceeding to a courtesy call with University President Kenneth A. Laruan alongside the International Relations Office staff at the Office of the University President.
As part of the visit, the delegates toured key university offices where they learned about BSU’s initiatives on employee welfare, student development, inclusivity, and mental well-being. At the Human Resource Management Office and Human Resource Development Office, they were welcomed by Ms. Maricris P. Lad-ey-Neyney and Ms. Jenny D. Agadan, who shared insights on the services offered, while at the Gender and Development Office, Mr. Jude Tayaben shared the university’s gender-responsive programs. At the Office of Student Services, Ms. Erlyn Honeylette Marquez, together with OSS unit heads, presented student support and wellness initiatives.
The delegates also visited the Cordillera Regional Apiculture Center (CRAC), where they were introduced to BSU’s bee research and honey production initiatives. They also toured the Institute of Highland Farming Systems and Agroforestry (IHFSA), where Mr. Vecker Tero, IHFSA Farm Supervisor, shared insights into BSU’s coffee production practices.
To have insights into our history and culture, the delegates also visited the BSU University Museum and the Benguet Museum, where they learned more about the rich history of our University and the cultural heritage of the region through presentations by BSU Museum volunteers Mr. Jude Segovia and Ms. Edel Paleyan, and Provincial Tourism Officer Kenneth Kelcho.
The tour concluded at the BSU Strawberry Farms, guided by Leonard D. Licudan, where the delegates were introduced to the university’s strawberry farming initiatives and local agricultural practices.
