Attending the 1st Asia-Pacific Environmental Human Rights Defenders Forum in Bangkok, Thailand, from October 24-28, 2022, was a transformative experience. Organized by the UNEP Regional Office for Asia-Pacific, the forum brought together environmental defenders, advocates, and policymakers from across the region to discuss the intersection of environmental protection and human rights. Engaging in insightful sessions, I learned about the challenges faced by environmental defenders, particularly in safeguarding ecosystems while advocating for community rights.
The forum emphasized the need for stronger protections and support for those on the frontlines of environmental advocacy. This experience empowered me to further champion environmental rights in my local work and global initiatives.
