The Benguet State University, through the Faculty and Staff Research, Innovation, and Commercialization Office (FSRIC) and College of Home Economics and Technology, BSU, successfully conducted the Welcome and Orientation Program for the Balik Scientist Program in partnership with DOST-PCAARRD on May 18, 2026.
The activity formally welcomed Dr. Flor Crisanta F. Galvez, under the Balik Scientist Program, strengthened collaboration among stakeholders, and provided an overview of the projects and initiatives to be implemented under the program.
The program commenced with an opening prayer led by Ms. Lorie Jean D. Benwasan, FSRIC Staff, followed by the acknowledgement of participants delivered by Mr. Caster Troy B. Iblogan, FSRIC Staff. Representatives from various university offices and partner agencies attended the orientation to express their support for the university’s research and internationalization initiatives.
A special message was delivered by Dr. Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres, Vice President for Research and Extension, who highlighted the importance of the Balik Scientist Program in advancing research, innovation, and knowledge exchange within the university and the community.
Mr. Lesley Dale G. Umayat, FSRIC Director, formally introduced the Balik Scientist and recognized the expertise and contributions that the program brings to the university. This was followed by an orientation on the Balik Scientist Program facilitated by Ms. Michelle Purisma Caparas of DOST-PCAARRD, who discussed the objectives, opportunities, and support mechanisms of the program for both the institution and participating scientists.
An overview of the projects and activities was presented by Ms. Daena Mariele D. Dar, FSRIC Staff, outlining the planned initiatives, collaborative engagements, and expected outcomes of the partnership. The session also included feedback and recommendations from the representatives of DOST-PCAARRD to further enhance the implementation of the projects and ensure alignment with institutional and national development goals.
Dr. Flor Crisanta F. Galvez, Balik Scientist, delivered a special message expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirming her commitment to contributing expertise and knowledge to the university’s research and extension endeavors. She also encouraged continued collaboration and innovation among faculty members, researchers, and students.
To conclude the program, Ms. Doreen I. Allasiw, Deputy Director of the International Relations Office, delivered the closing message and presented the ways forward for the partnership. She emphasized the importance of sustaining international collaborations, strengthening research networks, and maximizing the opportunities brought by the Balik Scientist Program for the growth and development of the university community.
The Welcome and Orientation Program served as a meaningful platform to foster stronger partnerships, promote knowledge sharing, and reinforce the commitment of Benguet State University and DOST-PCAARRD in advancing research excellence and innovation through the Balik Scientist Program.
