Delegates from Tottori University paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the President on March 23, 2026, as part of their field study exploration in Benguet’s farming communities, accompanied by Ma’am Matyline Talastas, Research and Extension IRO Coordinator, and Ma’am Cheryll Launio, Director of the Office of Extension Services.
Benguet State University President, Dr. Kenneth Laruan, and International Relations Office Director Dr. Rex John G. Bawang, extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation of Tottori University, including a professor, alongside undergraduate Agricultural Economics students and a BSU alumna, Ms. Mary-an Altaki, who is currently pursuing her graduate studies in Agricultural Economics at Tottori University.
Following their courtesy visit, the delegation toured around the campus, including select agricultural centers and institutes. During their tour, the delegation visited the University Marketing Center, where BSU products are available. They also explored the University Library, where Ms. Pretty Garuela, one of the Library Aides, guided them, and the University Museum, where C. Unos and R. Wayan, BSIT interns, shared a brief history of the University.
At the Institute of Highland Farming Systems and Agroforestry (IHFSA), they were guided by Mr. Cirilo Del Rosario, Science Research Assistant, who introduced the different stages of Arabica coffee processing and demonstrated the various machineries, tools, and equipment used. The visit concluded with a courtesy call at the office of the IHFSA Director, Mr. Christopher Deponio, where the delegation engaged in a meaningful discussion on the current state of the coffee industry.
The delegation then proceeded to the Agri-based Technology Business Incubator/Innovation Center (ATBI/IC), where Project Technical Assistant V Mr. Leonard Licudan led a tour of the facility, highlighting food processing methods, packaging techniques, and equipment. This was followed by a visit to the Food Science Research and Innovation Center (FSRIC), where Mr. Caster Troy Iblogan facilitated the tour and discussed food product development, extension services, and processing technologies. During the visit, the delegation also met the FSRIC Director, Mr. Lesley Dale Umayat.
Wrapping up the tour, the delegation met with Vice President for Research and Extension, Mr. Roscinto Ian Lumbres, at the Research and Extension Office. //J. Victorino, IRO BAEL Intern
